Issue #14 - June 2007
Thank You
Each Sunday as I sit in the back of the congregation, I can't help but notice the people around me. Friends and families are greeting one another with handshakes and hugs. A familiar face stops beside the pew where I'm sitting and offers a smile and a handshake, "welcome, it's good to have you with us." A single gesture that means so much ...
My husband, GarDel, and I moved to Louisa in November 2005. No stranger to moving, I knew all the changes that I would be making. One important change brought anxiety to my soul. I would have to find a new church. Once the house was in order and the computer up and running, I set about the task of searching for information about area churches. With my list of worship times and places, I narrowed my visitation list. I have visited many churches in the past and believe me when I say this is not an easy experience. You never know what to expect. Will the people be friendly? Will they stare and whisper to one another, "who is that stranger?" Or will you be filled with the Holy Spirit the moment you step inside? All these things were running through my mind the first Sunday I visited Louisa Christian Church.
I remember the queasy feeling in my tummy and my sweaty palms. I wasn't sure which door to enter so I chose the one I came to first. Inside there were people milling around waiting for the service to begin. And there it was, the first smile. I was given a bulletin and ushered inside. I wasn't going to venture too far up front on my first visit, so I sat in the back next to an elderly lady and man. She looked at me with the brightest smile and took my hand in hers, "Hi, I'm Rose and this is my son. Welcome!" Next Sherry introduced herself to me and has since taken it upon herself to "check up on me" if I miss a Sunday. What a blessing! Louisa Christian Church revealed Christ to me that day. Each person is revealing the Jesus in them.
I take this opportunity to say, "Thank you." Keep smiling and offering those handshakes and hugs. You may never know the impact of even the smallest gesture.
Colossians 3:17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Going Green
As you go about your business at the church, please be aware that recycling containers are now in the kitchen. The trash cans are located at the door that leads from the fellowship hall into the kitchen.
The recycling container on the left is for glass only and the container on the right is for aluminum only. Please, make sure that whatever you place in there is empty and washed out.
As God's people, it is our responsibility to be God's example here on earth. Our church can do more to be good stewards of God's creation, but this is a good start. If you have not started recycling at home, why not start today?
Going to D.C.
Being a minister who works primarily with youth can often be a humbling experience. Every time I hear about something that one of the kids in this church has done, I am reminded how mediocre I was as a kid. My main goals as a kid were to sleep in, eat ice cream, and to get C's in school. However, so many kids in our church are doing so much more than that.
One such kid (or shall I say "young woman?") is Ginnie Bowers, the granddaughter of Betty and Bill Furniss. I was talking with her last week about her latest accomplishment. As I tried to learn more about Ginnie I said, "So, basically, you're really smart." That sums it up pretty well.
Ginnie has been coming to our church for many months now. Along with Ronald, Linda, and Kris she comes to church and Community Youth Night on Wednesdays. She just completed the 6th grade at Louisa County Middle School.
Recently, she was selected to go to the National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C. Louisa Christian Church raised quite a bit of money to make it possible for Ginnie to attend. Seeing D.C. and seeing history firsthand are two of the biggest reasons that Ginnie wanted to go on the trip. She will be gone from July 30 - August 4. Please, keep her in your prayers during this time.
Ginnie's ambitions for life are as big as her potential. If veterinarian school does not work out, she hopes to do something with astronautics.
Ginnie is just another example of the great kids we have in this church. Thanks for supporting each of them.

A Great Joke
A woman in Brooklyn decided to prepare her Will and make her final requests. She told her Rabbi she had two final requests. First, she wanted to be cremated, and second, she wanted her ashes scattered all over Bloomingdales.
"Why Bloomingdales?" asked the rabbi. "Then I'll be sure my daughters visit me twice a week."
